The Use of Cowries

VILLAGER's work incorporates cowries as a ritual of remembrance, connecting to the spirit of water and land. In Yorùbá and African traditions, cowries are significant in jewelry, currency, trade, rituals, and ancestral veneration. In his art, cowries symbolize a connection with ancestors and carry ancestral wisdom, reflecting the historical, spiritual, and social dimensions of Yorùbá and African art.
