Nyima Campbell, Breathe, 16"x 20"

Self-Care Through Art Exhibition

Medium: Digital Art
Size:  16"x 20"

For the piece I submitted, I wanted to capture the feeling someone would have when the work day ends and the door to the outside chaos is closed. The opportunity to free yourself, let your hair down, and breathe. I feel like taking deep breaths was one of the major coping mechanisms I adapted in my adulthood to help avoid spiraling.

It depicts a woman with her hair out, her eyes closed, and her breathing out. She has some faded scars that represent life experiences and hard lessons. In spite of those scars, she is near-tranquil; acknowledging their presence but not letting them be the main focus.
